The Alano Club in Phelps Luck is a dues-paying membership organization which provides a place where AA or Al-Anon family group members can gather to hold meetings and lean more about these recovery programs. The Alano Club elects a Board of Directors to conduct the business of renting space, by paying the operating expenses of “keeping the door open for the drunk who needs it”, by centralized scheduling of fellowship meetings and by holding social activities to support and enhance the sobriety and serenity for all.
The Phelps Luck Group (PLG) is an association of many AA meetings held at the club. They have banded together to unify duties having elected a GSR, Institutional Representatives, proving AA literature to all groups and meetings held at this club and sponsorship of other recovery activities.
There are other AA groups housed at the Alano Club, such as, Easier Softer Way (ESW), First Things First (FTF), Saturday Morning Step Group and also a series of of meetings like The Dawn Patrol (DP). These groups choose to carry out their responsibilities separately from the Phelps Luck Group (PLG).
All of these groups and meetings contribute a sizable portion of their “passing the basket” collections to the Alano Club. However, these contributions have never been sufficient to cover all operating expenses. The Alano Club membership dues are needed to keep the groups/meetings self supporting, in accordance with the AA traditions. Alano Club members view their dues as a “financial 12th step”, ensuring that the Alano Club doors remain open to all who wish to experience the “miracle of recovery”.
