Keeping the Lights On… It is not just a metaphor!

Columbia Maryland Alcoholic Anonymous ClubThe Phelps Luck Alano Club, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization whose specific mission is to maintain a safe/clean place for Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

The Board of Directors is a group of “trusted servants” who perform many tasks that are essential to maintaining the space where many of us found a sense of hope and freedom from despair.  Monthly operating expenses are approximately $6,000.  The “basket” covers approximately $3,900 of these expenses.  The difference comes from your generous donations. As prudent stewards, we use these funds to pay monthly:

  • Rent = $2800
  • BGE utilities and HVAC maintenance = $270
  • Trash removal = $200
  • Supplies – toilet paper, coffee, cups, paper towels, etc = $500
  • Cleaning Services = $530
  • Telephone, insurance & storage = $150
  • Social functions – Saturday night games, sober jam, karaoke = $100
  • Building maintenance – security, locksmith, glass repair, replacing old furniture, literature = $580
  • Debt repayment – deck construction = $200
  • Contribution to AA Central Services / PLG group expenses = $790

Additionally, the club created a new space for newcomers to “hang out” and start becoming “a part of.”  The deck and awning cost $12,300.  The landlord contributed $2,200 and the remaining balance for $10,100 will be paid for by the club.

Gratitude and generosity are like peas and carrots.  Please support the club with tax deductible annual “club memberships” or one time anonymous donations.  Remember what your last DUI or your last divorce cost you. Of course, all are welcome at the Alano Club without regard to financial contribution.   If you are unable to make a donation, it is totally cool.  Keep coming back and financial recovery will come to you.

Memberships and renewals ($40 or more) can be made with a check payable to “Phelps Luck Alano Club, Inc”.  Our address is 9231 Rumsey Road, Suite 1, Columbia, MD 21045. There are also membership envelopes on the back wall in the club. You can fill out the envelope and give it to any meeting secretary to deposit with the meeting “basket”.  You can also donate or renew your membership on line using a major credit card or PayPal Account.
